Ranch Specialties: Cutting, Team Penning, All Around
Scott has a tremendous amount of experience training under some of the best cutters in the industry today. He worked for Bill Riddle from the summer of 1994 to the spring of 2000, during which time he competed at all of the major NCHA aged events throughout the US. In that time period, Bill was the leading NCHA trainer and won over $200,000 on several different horses including Dox Smart Buy, Stylish and Foxy, and Dual Reward, and in 1997 alone he won over $360,000. Scott also was the head trainer at Frank Merrill's Winward Stud, and at Blue River Ranch in Wilber, Nebraska. Earlier in his career he started colts for Pat Fitzgerald and also Ernie Beutenmiller.
Scott has been able to incorporate and combine what he has learned from these performance horse programs into his own style of training. He allows his colts to learn at their own pace, with the experience to know when to push them and when to back off. He spends a great amount of time suppling the colts, teaching them to bend, turn around, and stop straight, encouraging them to work a cow correctly and with feel and intensity while still keeping their front ends free to move quickly. Scott's horses present a pretty picture to work and ride. Scott is an NCHA-approved judge, CHAN Futurity co-champion, multiple aged event finalist, NCHA Western Nationals open and novice horse finalist, as well as other accomplishments too numerous to list. Scott enjoys helping other cutters, both beginners and experienced riders, and he offers cutting lessons, showing, practice, and cow-working and horsemanship clinics.
